Installation

Please follow the installation instructions to get started with the plugin.

Dependencies

First of all, we need to install dependencies. Currently the only dependency is librosa library. Blender has a bundled Python, so it needs to be installed inside it.

Locate Blender's Python

It should be in //python/bin directory. From now on, we will use to address this location.

Installing pip for Blender's Python

  • Download pip somewhere (e.g. to home directory)
  • Run it with Blender's Python
<blender-python>$ ./python3.5m ~/get-pip.py

Installing librosa for Blender's Python

  • Locate pip in blender. It should be in //python/lib/python3.5/site-packages directory. Lets call this directory
  • Then, from the directory run:
<blender-python>$ ./python3.5m <blender-site-packages>/pip install librosa

ffmpeg

Librosa library uses audioread package, which in turn requires ffmpeg command to be available. You can install it on Linux with the following command:

apt-get install ffmpeg

  1. Clone / Download the source from GitHub
  2. Open Blender, and go to File -> User Preferences -> Add-ons -> Install Add-on from File...

Known bugs

  • The plugin does not work with the Blender renderer, it needs the Cycles renderer,
  • The generated terrain does not is not lighted at the beginning, it needs to be touched to get lighted. This means, e.g., moving it a bit, or selecting it from the objects panel,
  • The Color Ramp Node in our material is a bit bugged at the beginning, and it needs to be touched to get updated. This means, e.g., setting any of its parameters to the same value.
