The GrantShares Program is a discretionary grants program governed by the GrantSharesDAO, where funds are primarily provided by the Neo Foundation and partner initiatives in the Neo ecosystem.
The GrantSharesDAO is designed to give the Neo community more agility to execute initiatives beyond those directly supported by the Neo Foundation or other grant-based programs, such as EcoBoost, EcoFund, or Early Adoption. Therefore, GrantShares doesn't compete with those and is regarded as a complementary program.
GrantShares offers an alternative avenue for seeding new development projects at a grassroots level, as well as to offer existing groups new opportunities for creativity and community growth.
👉 GrantSharesDAO welcomes the submission of smaller grant proposals that do not fit the scope of existing funding tracks provided by Neo (as mentioned above), and approving those of the highest quality that have the potential to bring value to the Neo ecosystem.
There are three main categories:
- Community Growth
- Ecosystem Recruitment
- Internal Development
Spending is aimed to be split roughly 33% to each category. This will not be enforced by the GrantSharesDAO governance, meaning that discussions off-chain should be conducted to reach the spending threshold.
GrantSharesDAO is composed of 'Members', which are initially appointed by the Neo Foundation. The GrantSharesDAO Members are a small group of individuals/entities aiming to increase Neo's impact and reach through community activities. Once deployed the DAO membership is set to be decided only through proposals -- either to remove existing members or to add new ones.
The Members analyze project proposals submitted to the GrantSharesDAO, with the goal to benefit the growth and development of the Neo ecosystem. Each DAO Member may vote to approve or reject a proposal.
The GrantShares smart contracts are developed at https://github.com/AxLabs/grantshares-contracts. The repository holds two contracts which are deployed on Neo N3 mainnet:
