The recommended way (as of May 2022) to edit the TeX files and view the generated PDF in real time is VS Code together with the Latex Workshop extension.
The source code is compiled using a Makefile.
Some common make targets are make draft, make submission, make report, and
make web.

It is recommended that you enable automatic word wrapping when editing files. It makes it easier to pinpoint changes textually in commit messages.
