"impot USGS contacts" has stopped working

I am using version 2.0.7 (current release). This used to work last week but now I am getting an error message. My internet connection is working fine.

@zdefne-usgs, are you still seeing this issue? I tested the "Import USGS Contact" feature and it works for me. The import feature pulls from the service https://geo-nsdi.er.usgs.gov/contact-xml.php?email=tnorkin@usgs.gov, are you able to connect to that through a browser?

For the last two days this wasn't working, but now it works. Maybe there was an interruption to the service? Thanks!

Great, thanks for the update, Zafer! I'm collecting more info about the "import USGS contacts" service.

I have been having this issue for several weeks now. Is there a fix?

Thanks

Hi @sdudash, we're currently looking into a fix. The contact lookup service that the Wizard connects to is currently down, and we'd like to connect it to a different source for contact information, hopefully in early June.

Hi, just wondering if there has been any progress on fixing this? It's such a great feature of MW!

@tfelger - yes! we are currently testing a solution that will be merged in very soon

@tfelger The fix for the import contacts section has been added in. If you pull the latest updates from GitHub, you should now be able to pull in USGS contacts to populate the contacts sections.

I attempted to pull updates through the link in the Metadata Wizard Help tab and get this error, but I'm not on VPN--direct connection to USGS network in Reston. It's similar to the error that popped up when attempting to import contacts. Is there another way to get updates?

Hi tdoody, there is a workaround to update the wizard manually. Here's a link for instructions (SharePoint view permissions set to all DOI): How to update the Metadata Wizard manually

You can download the "fort-pymdwizard" folder from the GitHub repository as a zip file, unzip it, and use it to replace the same folder within your installed application. If you change the name of the downloaded folder from “fort-pymdwizard-master” to “fort-pymdwizard”, you can do a straightforward replace.

@sdudash, thanks for testing this out. Yes, the thesaurus lookup is next on the list for fixing (although this is dependent on available development time).

For now, users can try looking up keywords directly in the USGS Thesaurus and entering them in manually. The outline format of the Thesaurus (https://apps.usgs.gov/thesaurus/thesaurus-full.php) can be helpful when searching for terms. Just a note: when manually entering the thesaurus names in the wizard's form, the standardized name to use is USGS Thesaurus
