README for Boopsie.pm

Boopsie.pm is a Perl program for exporting bib records and uploading them to a FTP server where the Boopsie service can pick them up. It is rather simple to install and to use once you have it configured properly.

Installation

To install it, simply clone the git repository to a GNU/Linux computer that has access to your database server and can FTP to the Boopsie server. You can configure your database and temporary file settings by following the comments in the export.xml file. You configure the FTP settings by following the comments in the ftp.xml file.

Email Configuration

Email settings are configured using the JSONPrefs module (see below). You will need to create a file that contains a JSON object structure (see http://www.json.org/) with the following value pairs:

{ "host" : "host.domain.tld", "port" : N, "user" : "username", "password" : "password", "encryption" : "tls", "from" : { "name" : "Sample Sender", "email" : "sender@domain.tld" } }

Naturally, you need to replace the generic values with those appropriate for your server.

The N after port needs to be the numeric port that you use to connect to your email server (very often 25 or 587).

The username and password field need your user name and password that you use for sending email through the server. If you don’t need to login to send email, then you can delete these settings.

The encryption field is likewise optional. You may remove it to use unencrypted SMTP or you may set the value to ssl instead of tls if that is what your server requires. (NOTE: That whether or not you use encryption also depends on your server, and the type of encryption may influence the value that you enter for the port option.)

The from name and email options appear in the From: header of the email that is sent.

Additional Perl Modules

Boopsie.pm requires the following additional Perl modules be installed:

Archive::Zip DBI Encode File::Basename JSONPrefs MARC::File MARC::File::XML MARC::Record MIME::Lite Module::Load Net::FTP XML::XPath

One of the following Perl modules is also required for sending of email, depending on your configuration:

Net::SMTP Net::SMTP::SSL Net::SMTP::TLS

Most of the above are available from CPAN or as packages in most GNU/Linux distributions. JSONPrefs is available via git: https://github.com/Dyrcona/JSONPrefs
