Your Shore: Citizen science oyster monitoring program

About this module:

This module was created for the YourShore project, based in Sydney, Australia. The module has been designed to collect wide-ranging data about the existing remnant shellfish reefs in Australia. The app has been specifically designed to engage the public with their local environment, allowing non-specialists users to record basic information about the types of habitat and existing shellfish aggregations found at their local shorelines.

Authorship:

This module was co-developed by Elisa Bone at Ashore Consulting, Sydney and Adela Sobotkova and Petra Janouchova at the FAIMS Project, Department of Ancient History, Macquarie University.

Funding:

Development of this module was funded by the Research Attraction and Acceleration Program (RAAP) NSW Department of Industry 16805/00 aimed to support innovation and investment in the New South Wales in 2016 and 2017.

This module contains the following FAIMS features:

  • user login protected with password
  • controlled vocabularies (dropdowns and checkboxes)
  • photo capture from device camera
  • coordinates from internal GPS
  • picture galleries and guide with visual examples
  • customised search workflow
  • attribute-level timestamps

This module can be used with no or minor modification for:

  • monitoring of various species
  • field-school or high-school trainings
