Rate the Meme

Rate the Meme is a fun and interactive web application that allows users to create accounts, sign in, and upload their favorite memes to share with the community. Users can also rate and comment on memes uploaded by others, adding an element of engagement and enjoyment to the platform.

  • User Authentication: Create an account and securely sign in to start uploading, rating, and commenting on memes.

  • Meme Upload: Share your favorite memes with the community by uploading them through your account.

  • Like System: Users can like memes using a simple and intuitive like system to show their appreciation for the memes they like.

  • User Profiles: Each user will have a personalized profile that showcases their uploaded memes, ratings, and comments (work in progress).

Getting Started

Follow these steps to get the Rate the Meme project up and running on your local machine:

  1. Clone the Repository:

    git clone https://github.com/your-username/rate-the-meme.git
cd rate-the-meme

  2. Install Dependencies:

    Ensure you have Node.js installed on your machine. Then, run the following command to install the project dependencies:

    npm install

  3. Set Up the Database:

    Rate the Meme uses a MongoDB database to store user accounts, memes, ratings, and comments. Set up your database and update the configuration in db.js to connect to your database.

  4. Environment Variables:

    Create a .env file in the root of the project and set the following environment variables:

    DATABASE_URL=your_database_connection_string
SECRET_KEY=your_secret_key_for_session_management

  5. Start the Development Server:

    npm run dev

  6. Access the Application:

    Open your web browser and visit http://localhost:8080 to access the Rate the Meme application.
