ShelterMe is an online marketplace web application that provides users with a catalog of public/private storm shelters. Combining an easy to navigate UI with information gathered based on user location makes it quick and simple to find shelter when a user needs it.
Auburn Hacks 2019 presented a situation where an overcrowded metropolitan area experiences a disaster of some kind that sends people into disarray. The prompt challenged teams to build a product that could help people find a way out of harm’s way as quickly as possible using any technology we wished.
We built an app that would allow users to quickly find and browse listed storm shelters. We also wanted the app to allow nearby homeowners to list their residence as an alternative shelter that could even be reserved by users in advance in case some sort of natural disaster (tornado, for example) was expected.
