/RailsPanelBlocksBetterErrors

Example of simple Rails app in which enabling meta_request while Chrome Dev Tools are open, prevents BetterErrors and BindingOfCaller from working.

Primary LanguageRuby

README

Demonstration of a simple app that shows the problem with RailsPanel/meta_request.

If meta_request is not enabled in the Gemfile, then you can use the Chrome Dev Tools.

If meta_request and RailsPanel are installed, when Chrome Dev Tools are used, then BetterErrors won’t show data in the right hand panel and the companion gem BindingOfCaller, also fails - no pane, no REPL.

Tested on Nitrous, using Ruby 1.9.3 p547.

Note, if you run this, there is a potential security implication.

Nitrous is a cloudy IDE. So the dev server is not on 127.0.0.1, It is made visible across the interweb. Don’t want BetterErrors giving everone access, so it is usually locked to 127.0.0.1.

In config/environments/development.rb, I have added a line to open up the Nitrous dev server to public use. BUT I HAVE ALSO ENABLED BASIC PASSWORD SECURITY and put it on an SSL server. Kinda hard to hack, so fairly safe.
