Workaround for linux skype client chat history bug. If you are looking for less clumsy solution, see http://web.skype.com or http://www.skypebrowser.com.
Edit: Thanks to my colleague, probably the easiest way to solve the chat history issue is to click the small clock-icon in top of the chat window GUI and choose a time range from the dropdown menu.
