They're like command-line aliases which speed me up (e.g. "c" is short for "git checkout").
Chrome's latest version removed the workaround for the lack of keyword bookmarks in Chrome. The workaround used the custom search engines feature.
This Chrome Extension is activated when you type "t" in the omnibar, because "t" is where my finger is when I open a new tab.
