The boy likes buses and there exists (for a significant price) destination boards that can show any bus or train departures
So I wrote one for him in Python that accesses data from the local bus company and displays it in the style of a dot matrix departure board
Unless you live in Brighton this is probably not of immediate use
- The font used is TEXASLED.TTF
config.yaml
contains the list of stops we are interested in with a display namefake_touch
insettings
is used to get pygame working with a touch screen (hides the mouse)
Create a file called start.sh
where you have installed the project, /home/peter/Documents/fred
in this case
#!/bin/bash
cd /home/peter/Documents/fred
python3 destination_board.py > /dev/null
Create destination.desktop
in /home/peter/.config/autostart
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Brighton Buses Destinations
Exec=/home/peter/Documents/fred/start.sh
StartupNotify=true
Reboot and you should be good
