This is a required project (phase 4 of the AirBnB Clone). It is a modification project that introduces the concept of using JavaScript and jQuery to make our web application dynamic.
The console is the first segment of the AirBnB project at Holberton School that will collectively cover fundamental concepts of higher level programming. The goal of AirBnB project is to eventually deploy our server a simple copy of the AirBnB Website(HBnB). A command interpreter is created in this segment to manage objects for the AirBnB(HBnB) website.
- Create a new object (ex: a new User or a new Place)
- Retrieve an object from a file, a database etc...
- Do operations on objects (count, compute stats, etc...)
- Update attributes of an object
- Destroy an object
This project is interpreted/tested on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS using python3 (version 3.4.3)

Thank you Alexa Orrico, Jennifer Huang, and Joann Vuong for the wonderful efforts and work done with the on-going AirBnB clone project. It is highly appreciated and we are immersely grateful to have your work as a foundation for us to build more on the version 3 of the AirBnB clone project.
In the next phase of this project, we (Dukeson and Bright), will be working on the RESTful API part of this project using Flask web framework.
What is a RESTful API?
REST is an acronym for REpresentational State Transfer. This is a technique or purposeful way to induce performance, scalability, simplicity, modifiability, visibility, reliability and portability to transfer of resources between servers and clients or between application that share resources amongst themselves.
API is an acronym for Application Programming Inteface. This is an agreed upon interface or logic through which data can be shared between two or more systems (clients-servers, two or more programming languages) using a uniform form. The most agrred upon format will be XML/JSON with JSON being the widely used format.
The RESTful API
is used mainly to request so that there is a smooth/uniform/reliable/simple way of transferring and retrieving resources to and from a client-server request.
There are 6 constraints to RESTful API which includes:
Defines the interface between clients-servers which can be split into smaller parts
HTTP VERBS
- GET: reads representation of a resource (getting all results or a specific result)
- POST: creates a new resource
- PUT: updates an existing specific resource
- DELETE: removes an existing resource (removing a specific existing resource or removing all existing resources)

- GET /companies : path to listing all companies
- GET /companies/123 : path to listing a company with id 123
- GET /companies/123/addresses : path to listing all the addresses for a company with id 123
- POST /companies : path to creating a new company resource
- PUT /companies/123 : path to updating a company with the id of 123
- DELETE /companies/123/addresses/3 : path to delete and address with the id of 3 from a company with an id of 123
HTTP Responses
- 200 : Ok
- 201 : created (after a POST request)
- 401 : unauthorized
- 403 : forbidden (client not allowed to access the resource)

- 500 : server error
The server does not store the state of the user/client information or request.
For improved performances, servers' reseponse are cacheable
There is a distinct difference between a client and a server. This is the reason RESTful API was introduced. The client does not bother about data storage and the server does not know who the client is.
Clients can not get a direct connection to the server. There are underlying structural logic that relays shared cache with the client through a load balancer that serves as an intermediary between the client and the server. This can also be used to enforce some security policies.
Servers can transfer logic to a client and allow clients to execute the logic eg. a javascript logic.
