Provide a digital platform for players to invent and enhance their own games. It makes the incorporation of true randomness, time manipulation, and tabbing of large number of variables tivial.
DND and other tabletop games are the closest to our idea. Baiscally they provide a set of tools for the players to make up their own story. However, none tried to incorporate digital systems into purely tabletop games.
A 16*16 board and a pair of screen/joy-stick combo will be designed. The majority of the work should go into the software. The UI includes several elements: random event generator, skill list, turn indicator. the skills will take effect on the probability of the random event
2 Oled screens, 2 joy-sticks, 2 arduinos, lazer cut used ply wood, 3d printing used PLA plastic.
Almost none. the screens and joy-sticks take less than 50RMB
The chess board and the chassis to put everything together. All lazer cuttable and 3d printable.
Lazer cutting and 3d printing, all readily availible.
Systems design and software implementation. There’s a lot of things we may change about the system: score system is not yet connected to the main system, etc.. There are going to be problems during the software implementation. Because we are using the arduino platform, memory and number of pins are going to be a big problem. Also, the memory restriction basically made it impossible to use Object oriented features of C++, which makes this project extra messy…
If we can actually invent and play an innovative game with it, it is a success.
- theory of games: structure
- Design the game logic, not the assets
- cards, maps, indicators, rules
- information, iterator
- cards: Cell phone app
- maps: rear projection
- indicators:
- anything graphical is hard to implement
- too many software
- no innovation
- a platform that supports rapid development of new games
- Make the process of creation more enjoyable
- use probabilistic distributions
- The ancient invention that ignited game play
- a game that allows overlap from different universes
- make the rules of individual “planes” verbose in all rule spaces (go pieces have hp, costs are normalized to turns, all rules projected into one big space)
- a ruleset of creating games
- Could be: a designing phase where players play a game to create a new game; a playing phase where players play
- Could be: normalization of different games into one universe, games played upon it
- ! a clock whose hands could be moved to generate reads
- Elements: events(Actions, Catastrophies), game manager(random trigger), status board(Turn indicator, Token indicator)
- Sample scene: Begin with chess setup. Any player can skip their turn to perform an Action, with the cost of Tokens. The Actions have a 10% chance of failing, causing a Catastrophe. Random Catastrophies may happen at any time during the game, affecting only the player currently in turn. The games ends when one player’s king is captured or certain Events happen.
- one device only
- Basic UI (positioning, movement of cursor)
- click actions (change turns)
-
- board, magnetic, piece,
- 2 lcd screens, 2 cons
- digital counter (changeable), timer (queries), language output
- chess clock, but with a twist:
- spending scores to do things
- random event
- all chess rules apply, unless the screen says otherwise
- rand. event could happen with probability p each turn on each player’s turn, rolled from a shared table of events
- 4 skills at the cost of a turn apply for each player. all rolled from a common pool of skills
- plot-twist:
- Place (5)
- Distroy GO accordingly (2)
- Capture: Capture using GO (2)
- Spawn: spawn a chess piece accordingly (1)
- Disassemble: spawn GO accordingly (1)
- MvArrGO: Move one of your piece around your GO, p + 5
- CaptSpawn: Everytime you capture a piece, spawn a GO for p - 10
- SpawnCaptd: Everytime your piece is captured, spawn a GO for p - 10
- MvGO: Move one GO one step, p + 10
- Rm1, 2: Remove 1 of your GO and 2 for your opponent, for p - 10
- RmDiag: Remove a diaganal pair of GO, for p + 20
- Turn: Turn a GO of your opponent’s into yours for p - 20
- Imbue: imbue a piece so that when it moves, p + 5
- Yours: Give your opponent a turn, p + 30
- Wild: Use Spawn(4) to place an inverted GO, changing its type every turn for p - 30
- Anti: Anti-Check: Protect your king with 4 GO, if checked, you ignore the check and the opponent must move out of check next turn for p - 50
- Game invention with pen and paper when young, recreate joy of invention with limitless possibilities. Randomness, number updates, time. In addition to the traditional tools, the introduction of these 3 elements will untie our hands. Gather! Before we begin, problem: wrong platform. Arduino: pins, randomness, memory. Using indices! Game blabla… Seriously considering reimplementing with python on Pi.
