Materials Have Wrong Retraction Settings

jledgett opened this issue · 5 comments

You have several retraction settings which are incorrect. Look at any of the Polymaker materials.

The retraction distance is 6mm which is appropriate for a Bowden drive system, but not a direct drive unit like the J1. Please update these to match Polymaker's suggested settings.

Please checkout our Snapmaker material settings, retraction distance is 1.5mm.

Duplicated issue: #38

When will the others be updated (or removed for everyone's sanity 😆 )?

We are not gonna change other materials, or another user is going to shout at us: Why retraction distance is so wrong for my CR-10 after installing your plugin? 😿

I think by Cura's design, user should always manage their own materials, always select the right material and tune their parameters well.

@parachvte That makes sense. I didn't realize that these were shared across machines as they do not show up for my CR 6-SE.

Is there something in the printer definition that indicates whether they will show up or not (or might be incorrectly indicating that the J1 is a Bowden printer?).

Actually they did fine tune material for specific machine:

This requires open pull request to Ultimaker's FDM material repo, add machine specific settings.

Update 2023.04.12:

With updates in release 0.8.0, we set retraction distance = 1.0 for J1 and retraction distance = 1.5 for Artisan.

  • When you are using materials that DOES NOT have retraction settings (like Generic PLA), it uses retraction defined in active machine.
  • When you are using materials that DOES have retraction settings (like Snapmaker PLA), it uses retraction defined in that material.
