The manual calls for M3x12mm screws here, but when using the Rapido cartridge, those are too short (0-1 Threads engagement), 16mm works great though, so maybe worth mentioning it in the Manual.
Ah no - one headset I pushed to far in... the other is ok with 12mm
my heatsets were perfectly flush, and even if its 0.5mm below surface, it should still at least engage, usually you want the screw diameter as your minimum thread engagement, wich would mean 3mm at least. if a 12mm engages 1 thread, you need 2.5mm longer screws, that would be at least 14.5mm, but 16mm is the next common and it fits, so 16mm would be the obvious choice.
I agree, I had the exact same issue. My inserts were pushed to just proud of the service and then leveled by cooling them down pressing onto a polished granite surface, so they're completely flush, yet they would not engage. 16mm worked perfectly.
In my case the hotend is a Phaetus Dragon HF.
