Health Caser, an Android application, provides training software to health-care workers (largely nurses) in sub- Saharan Africa. Health Caser uses health case studies that are gradually ‘worked through’ by the health-care worker. Health Caser assists health-care workers in performing much of the work traditionally left to doctors, resulting in the health-care workers’ expanding their medical knowledge. Using Health Caser, health-care workers are able to ask questions about and discover the patient’s medical history, order medical tests and view their results (such as X-rays), track their overall progress through all health cases, and view their statistics. These ultimately result in the health-care workers’ being able to correctly diagnose the patients in the health cases.
