High Sierra 10.13.6
Darwin 17.7.0
Python 2.7.15

You must use python 3. I don't currently support python 2.7.
Let me know if this doesn't fix the issue and I'll see if I can help any further.

$ brew install python3
$ brew postinstall python3
$ curl -O https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py
$ sudo python3 get-pip.py
$ pip3 install stronghold
$ stronghold
