Ansible Role to deploy one or multiple MariaDB instances on a linux server.
Tested:
- Debian 11
# latest
ansible-galaxy role install git+https://github.com/ansibleguy/infra_mariadb
# from galaxy
ansible-galaxy install ansibleguy.infra_mariadb
# or to custom role-path
ansible-galaxy install ansibleguy.infra_mariadb --roles-path ./roles
# install dependencies
ansible-galaxy install -r requirements.yml

You need to define your instances by configuring the 'mariadb' dictionary!

You might want to use 'ansible-vault' to encrypt your passwords:
ansible-vault encrypt_string
Run the playbook:
ansible-playbook -K -D -i inventory/hosts.yml playbook.yml --ask-vault-pass
There are also some useful tags available:
- base => only configure basics; instances will not be touched
- instances
- config => configuration (base and instances)
- dbs
- backup => instance backup-jobs
- users
To debug errors - you can set the 'debug' variable at runtime:
ansible-playbook -K -D -i inventory/hosts.yml playbook.yml -e debug=yes
-
Package installation
- Ansible dependencies (minimal)
- MariaDB

- Bind only to localhost
- SSL OFF
- Slow-Query logs
- InnoDB file per table
- DB DNS-lookups disabled
- for more info check out the example below
-
-
WARNING: This role expects that the default mariadb/mysql instance (mysql.service/mariadb.service) on the target system is not and will not be used!
It's socket and port is changed by running this role! -
WARNING: If you are running your db servers in an active-active configuration you should NEVER run the role on both nodes at the same time!
Else the user-/db-creation tasks might break your sync! -
Note: this role currently only supports debian-based systems
-
Note: Most of the role's functionality can be opted in or out.
For all available options - see the default-config located in the main defaults-file!
-
Note: We use the official community modules for database and user configuration. Replication support might get added later on.
-
Note: Certificate management might be added later on to this role.
For now, you need to provide the certificates manually (placed in /etc/mysql/ssl/{INSTANCE_KEY}/[ca|cert|key].pem) -
Note: You need to provide the mysql-user privileges EXACTLY as returned by a SHOW GRANT statement!
-
Tip: If you are mounting the datadir explicitly - you should set some mount options to optimize performance:
- noatime,nodiratime
-
Warning: Connections via TCP/IP to localhost/127.0.0.1 will not work by default when 'skip-name-resolve' is enabled!
It will throw this error:
Host '127.0.0.1' is not allowed to connect to this MariaDB server
