Materia Medica

Autonomous mutual self-education about the wonderful world of medicinal plant technologies. :)

This repository contains a Zim notebook (functionally, a wiki), for publishing ("open-sourcing") the knowledge of Flora Posidonia herbalists. Knowledge is power, sharing is caring, and intellectual property is censorship.

We hope you will find this project useful as a compendium for your own self-education. Remember, "medicine is made from plants, yo."

How to use this repository

The herbalists at Flora Posidonia use a number of technologies to make our work easier. To use this repository, and especially to contribute to it, you will need to familiarize yourself with the following free software tools:

  • Zim - Locally-hosted, simple, flat-file wiki software. This repository is "just" a Zim notebook.

If you don't already have Zim installed on your computer, you can download it from Zim-Wiki.org. Once installed, you will need to acquire a copy of the Materia Medica files, themselves.

Regardless of which copy you download, you will then need to open (launch) Zim, add the folder you downloaded to Zim, and away you go.

Disclaimer

While we hope you will find this project useful, it is provided as-is, without any warranty or guarantee of correctness. Our hypothetical lawyers would probably appreciate it if we put a disclaimer up somewhere, so here you go:

These statements have not been evaluated by the dear FDA. This content is not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent or cure any disease. The authors are not responsible for the improper use, reactions, or results from how you use this information. Please contact your healthcare provider with any questions regarding the safety of these recipes and before adding any herbal supplement to your diet.

That being said, we use these recipes ourselves and believe strongly in the power of less-industrially-processed ingredients and procedures. This project is intended solely for those people who have similar sensibilities. If this describes you, welcome home. We're glad you've found us.

Learn more about editing files in your Web browser, on GitHub. After you make a change and save it to your copy, let us know by creating a "pull request," i.e., by sending us a notification through GitHub that you have an awesome new recipe to share!

If you have any trouble with this process, contact the friendly herbalists at Flora Posidonia for help. We're looking forward to your contributions!
