A Spotify client for the terminal written in Rust.
The binary executable is spt.
brew install Rigellute/tap/spotify-tuiCurrently, this will only work for macOS.
If you already have the Rust toolchain installed, you can build from source and install using
cargo install spotify-tuiThis method has the benefit of supporting more architectures.
- Download the latest binary (currently only for macOS).
cdto the file you just downloaded and unzipcdtospotify-uiand run with./spt
spotify-tui needs to connect to Spotify’s API in order to find music by
name, play tracks etc.
Instructions on how to set this up will be shown when you first run the app.
But here they are again:
- Go to the Spotify dashboard
- Click
Create a Client IDand create an app - Now click
Edit Settings - Add
http://localhost:8888/callbackto the Redirect URIs - you don't need anything running on localhost, it will still work - You are now ready to authenticate with Spotify!
- Go back to the terminal
- Enter you
Client ID - Enter you
Client Secret
You can edit the config at anytime at ${HOME}/.config/spotify-tui/client.yml.
After the Client ID and Client Secret are set you will be redirected to an official Spotify webpage to ask you for permissions.
Once accepted you will be redirected to localhost. Copy the URL and paste into the prompt back in the terminal. And now you are ready to use the spotify-tui!
The binary is named spt.
When running spotify-tui press ? to bring up a help menu that shows currently implemented key events and their actions.
You need to have the official Spotify app open in order to play songs, but you can control all your devices with this app.
If you want to play tracks, Spotify requires that you have a Premium account.
The goal is to eventually implement almost every Spotify feature.
- The auth token does not currently automatically refresh - when you leave
spotify-tuirunning for a while, you won't be able to control playback. And you'll need to quit and restart to get it working again. - Add songs to a playlist
- Be able to like songs in every view, and see that a given track is already liked.
- Be able to scroll through result pages in every view
- View Library "Made for you"
