React tutorial taken to extremes

Primary LanguageJavaScript

Tic Tac Toe - React App

This project was bootstrapped with Create React App and started out as the React tutorial from their website. To imcrease my learning I will be applying any new techniques I come across to this project and pushing it beyond the starting point.

Current features

This project started out as the tutotial from the React site. The current level of features is shown below. As the pipeline is developed (when I wish to have fun) it will be added to this section:

  1. Basic Tic Tac Toe board with move history - tutorial endpoint (https://reactjs.org/tutorial/tutorial.html)
  2. Extra tasks suggested in the wrap up section of tutorial - (https://reactjs.org/tutorial/tutorial.html#wrapping-up)
  3. Refactored to work with the default build structure (i.e. App.js and index.js setup) after running the following command. This allows for easier implementation of the react-router for later updates
    npx create-react-app <app-name>

  4. WIP

Pipeline

These are the current items on my TODO list for added features, refactoring:

  1. Allow the choice of who goes first X or O
  2. Keep tally of wins - include "Next game button"
  3. Allow a "Game reset" if keeping tally to restart after ultimate winner decided
  4. Allow a Play Computer option
    1. first effort to be random selection (Easy mode)
    2. second game tree (Hard mode)
  5. Provide a setup screen where players can enter their name and select X or O
  6. Allow the addition of an Avatar for the user and use the avatar instead of X or O

Available Scripts

In the project directory, you can run:

npm start

Runs the app in the development mode.
Open http://localhost:3000 to view it in the browser.

The page will reload if you make edits.
You will also see any lint errors in the console.

npm test

Launches the test runner in the interactive watch mode.
See the section about running tests for more information.

npm run build

Builds the app for production to the build folder.
It correctly bundles React in production mode and optimizes the build for the best performance.

The build is minified and the filenames include the hashes.
Your app is ready to be deployed!

See the section about deployment for more information.

npm run eject

Note: this is a one-way operation. Once you eject, you can’t go back!

If you aren’t satisfied with the build tool and configuration choices, you can eject at any time. This command will remove the single build dependency from your project.

Instead, it will copy all the configuration files and the transitive dependencies (Webpack, Babel, ESLint, etc) right into your project so you have full control over them. All of the commands except eject will still work, but they will point to the copied scripts so you can tweak them. At this point you’re on your own.

You don’t have to ever use eject. The curated feature set is suitable for small and middle deployments, and you shouldn’t feel obligated to use this feature. However we understand that this tool wouldn’t be useful if you couldn’t customize it when you are ready for it.
