a fully featured, event-driven chatbot library for reddit chatrooms!
works either with reddit username & password or the api token (not a regular one you get from your registered app as it's not fully scoped)
pip install Reddit-ChatBot-Python
required:
websocket_client
requests
The module is multithreaded and event-driven. You handle what will happen on these events by writing your function with the corresponding event's decorator.
For creating an instance of RedditAuthenticaton, there are two options
Recommended way is to create a PasswordAuth:
from Reddit_ChatBot_Python import RedditAuthentication
reddit_authentication = RedditAuthentication.PasswordAuth(reddit_username="",
reddit_password="",
twofa=None)
or you can go with your self-obtained api key. (not the one you get from your registered app)
from Reddit_ChatBot_Python import RedditAuthentication
reddit_authentication = RedditAuthentication.TokenAuth(token="")
then instantiating the chatbot with the reddit_authentication passed in
from Reddit_ChatBot_Python import ChatBot
chatbot = ChatBot(print_chat=True,
store_session=True,
log_websocket_frames=False,
authentication=reddit_authentication
)
print_chat
is for print
ing the chat messages on console
store_session
when set to True, creates a session file storing the reddit_authentication on
the same directory the main script was called at. Speeds up the inital connection.
log_websocket_frames
logs the non-parsed websocket frames on the console
authentication
is the RedditAuthentication
you instantiated before
The events:
@chatbot.event.on_message
The event of receving a regular chat message.
@chatbot.event.on_ready
The event of connecting to the chats for the first time. Executed only once.
@chatbot.event.on_invitation
The event of the bot receving a chat invitation whether direct or group.
@chatbot.event.on_invitation_of_other
The event of another user receving an invitation for a group chat the bot is in.
@chatbot.event.on_message_deleted
The event of a user deleting their message.
@chatbot.event.on_user_joined
The event of a user joining to a chat the bot is in.
@chatbot.event.on_user_left
The event of a user leaving a chat the bot is in.
@chatbot.event.on_user_typing
The event of a user typing.
@chatbot.event.on_user_read
The event of a user reading a message.
@chatbot.event.on_broadcast
The event of receiving a broadcast like upon user join
@chatbot.event.on_reaction
The event of a user sending a reaction
All events receives a parsed frame as an argument. They are handled like this.:
@chatbot.event.on_message
def greet(resp):
if resp.user.name == chatbot.get_own_name(): # return if the message is from the bot
return True
if resp.message == "Hi!":
chatbot.send_message("Hello!", resp.channel_url)
return True
-
Returning
True
from events means that handling of the other events won't be carried out! -
resp.channel_url
is the url of the channel we want to send the message to (resp.channel_url in this case which is the channel in which the "Hi!" message was sent.)
The argument resp
carries more data than just the user and the message string. The Instances of resp for
some events are listed below.
All there is left is starting the chatbot:
chatbot.run_4ever(auto_reconnect=True)
How fields are accessed:
message = resp.message
nickname = resp.user.name
