Whether you're planning a vacation or a daily commute, SmartCarbon empowers you to calculate the carbon footprint of your travel plans and provides options to offset emissions by supporting environmental projects or making sustainable choices during your trip.

This project was created as a joint effort between Camden Catholic High School and St. Joseph's Preparatory School, and it's our entry for the 2023 Congressional App Challenge.

Features

Calculate Carbon Footprint

SmartCarbon allows you to estimate the carbon footprint of your travel plans, taking into account various factors such as distance and mode of transportation. This feature provides valuable insights into the environmental impact of your journeys.

Offset Emissions

Once you've calculated your carbon footprint, SmartCarbon offers you ways to offset your emissions.

Getting Started

Follow these instructions to get SmartCarbon up and running on your local machine or mobile device.

Installation

  1. Clone this repository to your local machine:

    git clone https://github.com/camdencatholic/smartcarbon.git
  2. Install the required dependencies:

    cd smartcarbon
    npm install
  3. Start the development server:

    npm run dev

Usage

  1. Visit the SmartCarbon website
  2. Enter your travel details
  3. SmartCarbon will calculate the carbon footprint of your trip and provide options for offsetting emissions.
