This is the source code to the SuperMicro IPMI Firmware. Apparently, not all of this is open source, so some of the files are provided as binaries.

I removed the SDK/ToolChain/Host/x86_64 directory. This was apparently for building this against an x86_64 target, which doesn't seem to be a useful thing.
The cross compiler provided is a i386 binary, so you need to install the necessary i386 libs:
dpkg --add-architecture i386
aptitude update
aptitude install ia32-libs zip
You'll also need the CramFS tools
aptitude install cramfsprogs
Whoever packaged this didn't bother to remove their .svn directories. These refereneced the following svn server:

Sadly, this server is down (and would probably require authentication anyway). I've removed all the .svn content.
This is pretty self contained, so there aren't really a whole lot of requirements for the host machine itself. You can build everything via:
cd SDK
make
sudo make install
make install
needs to be run as root, as the image filesystem contains some files that can only be read as root. This should not install anything to the host machine, it just generates the final image.
The original firmware tool used a closed-source tool named mkbin
to generate the final image. This tool appeared to be broken (it just hung indefinitely, looking for some kind of input on stdin). I replaced it with my python utilities for generating an image: https://github.com/devicenull/ipmi_firmware_tools . This lives in SDK/MKIMG_Tool/ipmi_firmware_tools

The default Makefile they included is pretty terrible (as are most Makefiles). I've replaced it entirely, with one I hope is more readable. I am far from done though, the new one is better but still invokes some other nasty makefiles to get the job done. The standard makefile is preserved in Makefile.bak, because it needs to be easily accessible for reference.
- SMASH - This is a mess, they hacked up the Dropbear source code to build this.. I can't seem to get it to build cleanly. I cannot find any references to people actually using SMASH (only enterprisely blogs talking about how wonderful it is because it's "standard", and people reporting security holes in it). I replaced this with an unmodified (but still old) Dropbear.
- DDNS - This should be updated to use some kind of standard DDNS client, rather then the (apparently) entirely custom one used here. This feature isn't terribly important to me, so it's been removed for now.
The directory SDK/src/closed_source contains modules that were not actually provided with the open source IPMI SDK. They had to be extracted from a firmware update file.
