investigate need for EEPROM, or if the filesystem on the pico will suffice, should be possible with https://github.com/tinygo-org/tinyfs

things to test:

  • persistence
  • speed and reliability

after further investigation, I'm opting for EEPROM, will be added to the revision 5 PCB
