Disclaimer

WARNING: This script is not being updated anymore.
WARNING: This will only work for kernels versions < 3.2

This module is not actively mainteined anymore since new kernel version only require to install the correct firmware binary.

Requirements:

The following applications are required before run the install script:

  • linux-headers-[version] (Where [version] is your specific kernel version and architecture, example: linux-headers-2.6.32-5-amd64)
  • make
  • tar
  • wget

You can install the required applications with the next command as root (only in debian based systems):

apt-get install make tar wget linux-headers-$(uname -r)

If you have a debian based system and other active internet connection, the linux-headers-[version] will automatically be installed by the install script via apt-get.

FAQs:

How do I know my kernel version?

Open a terminal and execute uname -r

How do I get the firmware binary?

If your kernel version is < 3.2 then you can use this script and it will install it automatically.

But, if you have a kernel version >= 3.2 (you don't need this script), and use Debian (or derivative), you can install the firmware via apt:

apt-get install firmware-atheros

If you do not use Debian, maybe you can find a similar way for your distribution. (Remember, if you have a kernel < 3.2 you can use this script on whatever linux distribution you use.)
