mplayer cuts off the metadata strings after a certain number of characters; is there a better way of pulling information out of the files?

Yes, there is a replica mode we should probably migrate to using, as it
provides much better control over the application and exposes a lot of
functionality.

It's a bit of work but it would let us make the cinequeue ui controls much
more useful.
