#pyDrop ##a web.py based drop.io replacement by Dan Steingart
###Welcome
Thanks for checking out pyDrop, my drop.io replacement. Drop.io was super. Then they sold out to Facebook, and it's no more. Perhaps facebook will integrate some features, but I'd rather not have my reallyimportantdata next to your child's drunken, debaucherous chronicles.
So I used the late Aaron Swartz's fantastic web.py to create a folder based drop site. It uses the nifty ajax-upload javascript so generously provided by valums and the ever popular jquery for some other voodoo.
###Requirements To get the show started you'll need:
- just python and web.py
Like all things web.py, you can run in by typing
python code.py <port number>
You can also use apache and mod_rewrite, ngnix, whatever.
###Usage
- Download the code,
- copy to a web-accessiable directory
- Modify the settings.py file to match your server-side-stuff
- Make sure realfiles is writeable/readable by the server
- Enjoy?
###License
Use it! Attribute me! Make it better! Give back!
###Caveats
There are probably countless security holes here. The code does the best it can to prevent overwrites, but stuff happens. To minimize said stuff from happening, a user can add, but cannot delete. There are no passwords as yet: the easiest way to authenticate right now is to implement some directory based voodoo via the .htaccess/.htpasswd method.
