While preparing for the formation of an education in Applied Artificial Intelligence at the Flemish University Colleges and discussing the need for teaching AI ethics, the idea arose to write an oath for these future students to take. While the framework for this oath was inspired by the designer's oath as described by James Williams in chapter 12 of his book entitled “Stand out of our light: Freedom and Resistance in the Attention Economy” (Williams, 2018), the bulk of this text has been written specifically with these students and with the potential risks of an AI project in mind.
To gather support for an AI oath.
This project is a work in progress. The oath is to become versioned, i.e. the oath is allowed to evolve over time. The first official version will be 1.0, but we are not there yet.
While the owner of this repository is the initiator for this project, the writing of the oath is a collaborative effort. Contact the repository owner if you wish to collaborate too.
Here.
If you know how to, you can use the functionality of github to fork this project and push your changes. You can view and edit the oath.md
markdown file that contains he oath and then convert it to HTML using pandoc:
pandoc -s oath.md --section-divs -c css/oath.css -o docs/index.html
Otherwise, it is probably easier for you to send me an email (david.dhaese@ap.be) with your ideas. Tell me what you would do differently or what you think is missing or superfluous and why. Or send me a line with your support or your criticism.
