App passwords keep expiring

I use Facebook app passwords for purple-facebook, with one password per install of Pidgin. Until summer 2019 that worked great. Since then, passwords stop working after a few weeks or months, leading to "Invalid username or password (401)" when connecting. Facebook doesn't actually tell me at https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=security&section=per_app_passwords&view that they're expired. They're still there, but I need to generate a new app password for that particular Pidgin install to successfully log in again.

I don't even know if this is a purple-facebook bug because I'm not using Facebook app passwords for anything other than purple-facebook.

happens to me as well. once in a while (every few months) I have to replace the app password.
just like dreamlayers I use app passwords for pidgin ( i.e. purple-facebook ) only ( 2 installs, home and work ).

I'm also using app passwords only in Pidgin. The error in debug log is
connection: Connection error on 0787D038 (reason: 2 description: Invalid username or password (401))
Password was generated at 2020-03-14 and stopped working today.
On another computer password generated 2019-08-28 stopped working sometime this week. And there have been no security notifications in Facebook itself.
I can't really imagine, how it could be an issue in purple-facebook. Unfortunately, Googling does not provide any information.

Could it be caused by #486 ? At least one time I saw that error before password stopping working permanently. But today I had that error, found that entry and changed Buddy list sync interval to 1440 and was able to reconnect without new password. Maybe having #486 multiple times causes disabling password (considering actual error message it sounds plausible).

I'm getting this as well; typically an app password generated for Pidgin lasts me no more than a week or two before I have to make a new one.

This seems to have gotten better recently for me. The password I'm currently using is from August 2019. The other two are from July and April 2020.

I now have less app passwords, because I got rid of Windows 7 and those Pidgin installs, and deleted their passwords. I wonder if that could be making a difference?
