Question: is your terminal's font italic?

Anyway, see #242 and #219; if they don't answer your question, let us know and we'll re-open this. (The idea is that types should be italic blue, but if the terminal info read via TERM doesn't support italic properly it may show up inverted.)

Perhaps you could post some code: I'll see what my vim gives with the stock cpp syntax. If that's not enough you may just need a better syntax file, or we may need to add to our highlights.

Huh, for some reason I can't get that formatted right. (emails don't support markdown) But I will try to get the screenshot I mentioned.

Here's what I get. Looks fine to me. The green highlighting is from something I stole:

" ~/.vim/after/syntax/c.vim
" https://vi.stackexchange.com/q/4975/10604
syntax match cFunction "\<[a-zA-Z_][a-zA-Z_0-9]*\>[^()]*)("me=e-2
syntax match cFunction "\<[a-zA-Z_][a-zA-Z_0-9]*\>s*("me=e-1
highlight link cFunction Function

I should probably actually simplify those patterns…

If you want more, googling vim cpp syntax comes up with at least two possibilities:

I can't comment on how good either is

The cpp syntax in nvim-treesitter is top-notch as well. But that requires neovim.
