Getting started with the ESS-DIVE Hydrologic Monitoring Reporting Format

About the Hydrological Monitoring Reporting Format

The ESS-DIVE Hydrologic Monitoring Reporting Format is intended for water level, temperature, electrical conductivity, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen, and pH data measured in situ using sensors deployed in water bodies. The user can also include data from variables/parameters outside the scope.

Access

Read about the Reporting Format and access all of the files at the GitBook, GitHub, or ESS-DIVE dataset. If you're new to the Reporting Format, we recommend using the GitBook.

Quickstart Guide

1 - Read the Instructions file

2 - Download the four templates (Data, Installation Methods, File-Level Metadata, and Data Dictionary). There are MS Excel versions with instructions and examples included, and there are csv versions with no guidance content. See the Term Guide for guidance as needed.

3 - Review the Recommended Vocabulary File for suggested column headers for your data file(s). If you choose to use your own column headers, the only allowed special characters are underscores and hyphens. No spaces are allowed.

4 - Populate all required fields in the templates and populate optional fields as desired. No empty cells are permitted. Omit the optional columns you do not populate. Find the full list of fields to populate in the MS Excel templates and in the Term Guide

A Quick Look at the Templates

Screengrabs of the Data File and Installation Methods templates with the required fields filled in with example information are below. The MS Excel templates include these examples and examples that include optional fields.
