LV2 port of the Livecut beat-slicer audio plugin

Primary LanguageC++

Livecut-Port

An adapted version of the Livecut beat-slicer audio plugin, which can be built as an LV2 plugin with DISTRHO-Ports libs and scripts.

This repository contains modified source code for the Livecut beat-slicer audio plugin, which can be used to build an LV2 version of Livecut. Livecut code originally from https://github.com/mdsp/Livecut with changes here to allow it to build and provide a fully working GUI. As the original source code didn't include a fully working GUI, some of the legacy code has been recycled to build a GUI with access to all parameters.

The LV2 version can be built using the DISTRHO-Ports libs and scripts at https://github.com/DISTRHO/DISTRHO-Ports.

One way to build the plugin could be to clone this repository, add DISTRHO-Ports as a submodule, add symbolic links to the libs and scripts folders, then build using meson:

On linux the commands would be:

git clone https://github.com/eventual-recluse/Livecut-LV2.git
cd Livecut-LV2/
git submodule add https://github.com/DISTRHO/DISTRHO-Ports.git
cd DISTRHO-Ports/
git checkout fe5bf2e87dd440ba98d3e8ac647b8518e2851f74
cd ..
ln -s DISTRHO-Ports/libs/ libs
ln -s DISTRHO-Ports/scripts/ scripts
meson build --buildtype release
ninja -C build

After building, the Livecut.lv2 folder should be found in build/ports-legacy

(NOTE: The 'git checkout' step is to restore the DISTRHO-Ports submodule to the 2021-03-15 release.)

Livecut

Livecut is based on BBCut the BreakBeat Cutting library written by Nick Collins for SuperCollider

The BBCut Library began out of work on an algorithm to simulate the automatic cutting of breakbeats in the style of early jungle or drum and bass, Nick Collins.

Livecut is only a small subset of what is possible with BBCut, but as it is available as a VST plugin, it is much easier to start experimenting with it.

It is a live beat-slicer but instead of manipulating equal chunks of audio like most beatslicer do, it works on the notion of audio cuts whose length and number of repetition depends on the context and the cutting procedure. Cuts are organized in blocks which then form a phrase. see Image below. And each phrase can be ended by a roll or fill.
