Save/Load panels open in editor but not in standalone - Mac

Hello,
I'm on Mac Bi Sur (11.4), Unity 2021.3.14f1. In Unity Editor the panels open up and everything works perfect, but after building the standalone they just wont open - no error message, no crash, no rotating beachball - the UI buttons which I set to open the panels simply don't do anything!
Tried full screen/windowed, tried sync/Async, tried all kinds of folders and drives - nothing.
Remark: If I run the app from a removable drive or from the Desktop, I do get a dialog requesting permission to access file in that location - but even if I ive permission, the panels won't open.
What am I doing wrong?

OK, sorry for being so hasty - building for intel64 DOES WORK. I'm leaving this here in case other people encounter the same problem.
What about M-based macs? Will my app run on them? Is there a fix coming up sometime?
