A project used during a 2020 NCSS masterclass, demonstrating a web service for RFS bushfire data used. The masterclass is given by @goodtune and @edwinsteele

NCSS Bootstrap

What you'll need to run to get started with this class.

cmd.exe

Make sure you can run "virtualenv":

"\Program Files (x86)\Python 3.6.4\python.exe" -m pip install --user virtualenv
"\Program Files (x86)\Python 3.6.4\python.exe" -m virtualenv

Download the project from GitHub as a ZIP file. Expand it. Change directory.

"\Program Files (x86)\Python 3.6.4\python.exe" -m virtualenv venv

From here, you should be able to follow the rest, except swap:

venv/bin/python

with

venv\Scripts\python.exe

Getting started

Create a virtualenv in which to install the project dependencies.

virtualenv -p python3.7 venv

Install the dependencies with pip.

venv/bin/pip install -r requirements.txt

Create your database.

venv/bin/python manage.py migrate

Populate your database with demonstration incident data.

venv/bin/python manage.py import_fires data/demonstration.xml

Start the development server.

venv/bin/python manage.py runserver

Launch your browser and visit http://localhost:8000/ and http://localhost:8000/json/ to interact with the system.

Loading Live RFS data (optional)

venv/bin/python manage.py import_fires http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/feeds/majorIncidents.xml
