Meet Ambi, your new best ambient friend. S/He likes to focus on creating music so that you can focus on the processing of sounds. Ambi is a self generating notes and chords creator. S/He will pick the key, scales, time, pitch ... all so that you can focus on manipulating the sound.
Here are three short and three longer examples of what you can do with Ambi.
These are 10 second clips of soundscapes done with Ambi. (make sure your the volume is unmuted)
un_chien_andalu_example.mp4
dr.caligari.mp4
the.phantom.carriage.mp4
These are longer examples that you can listen to on youtube and twitch.
The short story is that you just need to download a file and load it into Sonic Pi. Following you will find a more detailed explanation.
- Click 'Code' on the top menu.
- Click 'Load'
- Find where you downloaded the ambi.rb file and select it. You should now see the code in Sonic Pi
- Press 'run'
After this, Ambi will start spitting out some mad notes and chords... s/he is the artist, do not judge.
I can think of two good reasons why this tool is helpful.
-
You get a looper pedal for free. If you are like me and use your looper pedal at the beginning of your signal chain, Ambi replaces it. So now you can use that looper in other parts of your signal.
-
No need to think about what to play today, just let Ambi handle it for you. This lets you focus on the processing of sound.
Note I have a interface that lets me Re Amp a signal so I used that to my advantage in my signal chain.
Sonic Pi > Interface > Pedals > Interface > Logic
Computer with Sonic Pi > Pedals > Interface > DAW
Rasberry Pi with Sonic Pi > Pedals > Interface > DAW
Feel free to write an issue on the project. I can also be reached via IG/guillecarlos. I did a stream with Ambi on twitch for the Ambient Fam event on Nov 4. If you would like to follow my channel as I will be doing more.
- Add more random sprinkle notes.
- Add more ambientish chord progressions.
- More scales ?
- Thinking of keeping the chords in lower frequency.
Please send me anything you might create with this tool. I would love to hear what others can create with Ambi.
