munin-plugin-wlans-nearby

A munin plugin that visualizes the number of nearby WLANs.

This is a one shot implementation, I just played around with Munin a little and wanted to have a test project.

How it works

It basically runs the command iwlist eth1 scan (which lists all WLAN networks nearby), cleans its output and counts the values.

I am not a Pro when it comes to Wifi stack implementations, but I guess this solution is Linux-only! Feel free to adjust this plugin for other operating systems.

Installation

This script can be installed like this:

wget -O /etc/munin/plugins/wlans_nearby https://github.com/hendrikb/munin-plugin-wlans-nearby/raw/master/wlans_nearby
chmod +x /etc/munin/plugins/wlans_nearby

Feel free to use linking (ln -sf ... /etc/munin/plugins/wlans_nearby) instead of saving the file directly into your munin plugin directory.

Important: If your Wifi device is NOT eth1, then please open the wlans_nearby script in the editor of your choice and change the linewifi_interface=eth1 to whatever your Wifi device is (might be wlan0 or so).

You can test whether the script is working correctly by simply invoking it: /etc/munin/plugins/wlans_nearby
