BUG: docs publication systematically fails in forks

I'm not sure why it's only popping now, but it'd be nice to configure CI so that publishing the docs only happens on the main repo. Currently the only restriction is that it happens only from the master branch.
building the docs could also be done systematically (no publication), but that's a different problem.

supposedly this was resolved in !302 however I'm currently not able to confirm as I need to figure out how to synchronise my fork again with git-lfs
I will report back as soon as I can.
