Support the URL form of PMIDs

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Enhancement request: Support PMIDs given as URLs in addition to just as numbers.
Health sciences librarians commonly use the URL form of PMIDs . It would be nice if those could be parsed/normalized like DOI have their URL form parsed and normalized.
The PMID 18276894 can be expressed as 18276894 or https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18276894. Those are the same identifier and the URL part is stable and unique.
