iotaledger/legacy-wallet-use-trinity-wallet-instead

Good Day. Please help me to find my missing iotas. On the 15th of May 2018 I transfered IOTA's from Binance to an Iota Light Wallet. I do have the wallet adress. Can you please help me?

Prerequisites

If you are not suggesting a feature, you must be able to check all of the following (place an x inside the brackets to check the box). If you cannot check all of the boxes, this issue should not be reported on GitHub as it is not a bug:

  • I confirm that this is an issue with the IOTA Wallet and not an exchange
  • I confirm that this is an issue with the wallet, not IRI
  • For pending transactions: I confirm that I have tried reattaching and promoting multiple times (check this box if your issue is not related to a pending transaction)
  • I confirm that this is not an issue related to stolen/lost funds
  • I confirm that this is not a zero balance issue related to a snapshot (last snapshots occurred on October 23 and January 28)
  • For private key warnings: I confirm that I am not at risk of reusing an address, or another user has verified that I am not (check this box if your issue is not related to a private key reuse)
  • I confirm that this issue is present on the latest version of the wallet

Hey @AJVSA, could you please send us the address to which you transferred your IOTAs? I'll take a look at it.

THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE.

Hey @AJVSA ,

UAYYPTXUHBAMVQUVS9VNRJPBANTVTNBIFSKZSDYOQCYZKXTBGBI9CHQYGDLSYEEETRNBUOIQIAGRQDHMWKNJGQW

this address doesn't exist on the tangle. You can have a look here and here.

Thank you so much for your patience. What can I do if the iotas were transferred from Binance to this unattached address. Binance confirmed the transaction. How can I recover the iota's and resend them to my valid wallet or Tangle attached address?

Thanx

Hey @AJVSA , if you have created this address with the IOTA Light Wallet, it should be sufficient if you click on "receive > generate new address".
This will take a short time, then this address will be attached to the tangle.
No problem, we're here to help each other :)
Let me know if it worked out.

Hey @AJVSA , I understand what happened. Usually a new address remains in the Light Wallet, even if you don't attach it to the tangle.
I tried it once for myself. However, I don't know what happens if you restart the computer several times in the meantime. I just closed the Light Wallet, logged in with other seeds and then again with the original seed. Thereupon the original address was still available in the Light Wallet.

Here is a good article explaining how addresses are generated and where they come from: https://medium.com/iota-demystified/how-iota-addresses-are-generated-from-seeds-40f554e38818

In your case happend exactly what should have been prevented by a good exchange. Normally an exchange should check if the specified address is also present in the tangle. This does not seem to be the case with Binance.

What happens now: First I would suggest that you generate some new addresses and attach them to the tangle. Maybe the original address will be included at some point.
If this is not the case, then let me know. Then I'll ask some people who know more about IOTA than I do. Maybe they'll come up with a solution to your problem.

Hey @AJVSA , at this

UAYYPTXUHBAMVQUVS9VNRJPBANTVTNBIFSKZSDYOQCYJGYZKXTBGBI9CHQYGDLSYEEETRNBUOIQIAGRQDHMWKNJGQW

address there is a value:

https://thetangle.org/address/UAYYPTXUHBAMVQUVS9VNRJPBANTVTNBIFSKZSDYOQCYJGYZKXTBGBI9CHQYGDLSYEEETRNBUOIQIAGRQD

Were you able to add this address to your wallet?

Hey @AJVSA , sorry for the delay in answering. I've had no experience with a case like yours. A few hours ago the Trinity mobile beta came out. Maybe you can try it out and see if you're more successful.

Let me know :)

@AJVSA - did you have any resolution? I think I have had the same issue, also involving Binance.
I bought IOTA on exchange back in March and moved in 3 tranches to my light wallet. At the time my balance correctly reflected. Now sadly when I was checking one of the transactions is missing from my balance and the address and txid are missing on IOTASear.ch (error 404 as existing) Actually then after some trying I managed to come right. I tried a few times to create a new address and then the wallet eventually came up with the above address and re-attached to the tangle. Then suddenly when you reference the address from binance it recognises that address again? So I think Binance was possibly sending yours to a legitimate address at the time - it just wasn't recognised for some reason on the tangle?

@lo5tinpr0 : Thanks very much - your advice above was indispensable in understnding and ultimately solving this! 5 stars!
