acts_as_mysqlsearchable makes MySQL fulltext search easy available directly in your models.

Specify fields with “acts_as_mysqlsearchable :fields => [:title, :text]”, make sure you have fulltextindex added on thoose columns!
Boolean search (:in_boolean_mode => true)
Supports MySQLs query expansion (:with_query_expansion => true)
Better results then LIKE ‘%query%’ matches
Simpler then ferret/ultrasphinx/<other external searchdaemons>
Exposes Rails 2.1 named scope

Because often MySQLs fulltext search is just enough for your case. It roughly sorts results after best match and it has various options like +/- etc.

You’ll need a MySQL fulltext index on the columns in your database since this plugin uses MySQLs builtin MATCH()

@posts = Post.find_by_contents(“ruby”)

example#2 – with pagination by will_paginate

Post.find_by_contents(“ruby”) do
