License Update

anthonylavado opened this issue Β· 68 comments

Sorry for all the messages everyone! My apologies.

The Core Team was recently reminded of the fact that this repository lacks a license for the documentation that has been written by our contributors.

In order to correct this, I am proposing that we license existing and future content under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International Public License(CC-BY-SA-4.0).

Through an analysis performed by Creative Commons and the Free Software Foundation, the license was approved to be listed as one-way compatible with the GNU General Public License Version 3 (GPLv3), and this is suitable for software documentation and code examples contained within.

A follow up post in this issue will tag all listed contributors and potential contributors who have open Pull Requests, to explicitly approve this change.

Dear contributors listed above - please read the first comment in this issue and confirm that you are allowing your contributions to this repository to be licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International Public License(CC-BY-SA-4.0).

If you have any questions, please feel free to reply and tag me, or contact me through our chat.

Thank you for your time and your contributions to making Jellyfin's documentation better!

I'm happy with this, can't tick myself though.

Yes I'm happy with this as well. Maybe the footer on the site should also be updated?

The main site content itself is ND, but not pertaining to the documentation. We'll look at that though.

This is fine for meπŸ‘

And my ax! Wait, what? Licence? You mean it wasn't always CC? Approved!!

Wow I had no idea so many people contributed to the docs! I think that's everyone except @LogicalPhallacy, @mike-theDude, and @aidanharris.

This is a good license and you are all good people for adopting it. I approve!
