Workshop: Analysis of Animal Movement Data in R

Program

Day 1:

  • Exploratory data analysis for movement data (J)
  • Data cleaning for telemetry data (B)

Day 2:

  • Quantifying space use of animals with home ranges (B)
  • Working with multiple animals/instances (J)

Day 3:

  • Introduction to habitat selection (RSF) (B)
  • Integrated step selection functions (iSSF) 1 (J)

Day 4:

  • Integrated step selection functions 2 (B)
  • Simulations from fitted iSSF (J)

Day 5:

  • Extensions of iSSFs (J)
  • Validation of models for habitat selection (B)

Structure

We will try to roughly use the following building blocks for each module (two modules per day):

  1. Discussion of exercises (introduction round on the first day)
  2. Lecture ~ 45 min
  3. R walkthrough ~ 45 min
  4. Introduction of exercises ~ 5 min
  5. Break ~ 20 min
  6. Lecture ~ 45 min
  7. R walkthrough ~ 45 min
  8. Introduction of exercise ~ 5 min

We will deliver content from 2pm to 6pm Berlin time. In addition, we will monitor the Slack channel from 9am to 10pm for questions on the exercises.
