There is a lot of code duplication in epitome -- most of these things could be turned into a set of ninet functions and shared across scripts. This would also allow for sharing into the spins project.

New idea -- ninet will be integrated into epitome entirely and ninet will be shut down. This will be come epitome 1.0.
