Below is a short list of potential starting points for exploring archiving and preservation concepts, tools, and opportunities. Listed resources with a specific focus (e.g. dance or human rights advocacy) are opportunities to explore how communities and archivists/preservationists are working together and learning from each other.

- Digital Conversion Equipment at the Brooklyn Public Library: Even though the video conversion equipment is temporary unavailable, this page provides step-by-step instructions for how the equipment at the Info Commons is used to transfer audio and video from analog material like VHS and vinyl records.

- Personal Digital Archiving from Purdue University Libraries: Resource guide around digital preservation that includes basic introductions, recommendations by digital format, storage, and a brief history of computing.
- Activists' Guide to Archiving Video from WITNESS: Free and available in English, Spanish, and Arabic. This guide was created to support human rights activists looking for information about organizing, storing, preserving, and sharing footage. It's divided into 8 manageable sections and easy-to-follow.

- Association of Moving Image Archivists: Professional organization focused on audiovisual archiving, preservation, and access. There is a public listserv you can join or read thru the archive of questions and announcements in the media preservation community.
- 🌇 Brooklyn Digital Collections at the Brooklyn Public Library: Collection of historical borough materials.
- 🌇 Brooklyn Historical Society: A local "urban history center dedicated to preserving and encouraging the study of Brooklyn's extraordinary 400-year history".
- 🌇 Interference Archive: Located in Gowanus, the organization explores the "relationship between cultural production and social movements" and offers open stacks, workshops, events, and resources.
- 🌇 Lesbian Herstory Archives: Located in Park Slope, the Herstory Archives is the "world's largest collection of materials by and about lesbians and their communities".
- 🌇 Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO): A non-proift that "develops and maintains essential library services throughout New York City and Westchester County" and provides free/low-cost training and resources to professionals and communities.
- Society of American Archivists: Professional organization which is "North America's oldest and largest national professional association dedicated to the needs and interests of archives and archivists", which includes resources like Donating Your Personal or Family Records to a Archive or Repository.
- 🌇 VoCA - Voices in Contemporary Art: Non-profit that offers resources, programs, and engagement "to address the production, presentation, and preservation of contemporary art".
- 🌇 XFR Collective : NYC-based non-profit which supports preservation of at-risk and obsolete audiovisual media by providing low-cost migration services and education to independent media makers and artists.
