cmdwatch

This is a tool that watches a set of paths (defaulting to the current directory) and performs some actions on them. It uses a pairing of patterns and commands to decided whether to perform the action.

The general syntax is:

-c is used to specify a command
-p is used to specify a pattern
-t sets the wait time in between events for a watcher.

A command should be entered before any patterns; this is the command that will be run on all subsequent patterns until a new command is specified.

For example:

cmdwatch -c make -p \.[ch]$ -c 'make pdf' -p '\.texi' src/ docs/

will watch the src and docs directories for changes to C source and header files, and texinfo files. Note that cmdwatch will watch these two directories for new files; they will be watched as well.
