Overview of the analysis:

Determine the number of retiring employees per title, and identify employees who are eligible to participate in a mentorship program. Deliver a written report that summarizes your analysis and helps prepare Bobby’s manager for the “silver tsunami” as many current employees reach retirement age.

Results:

Using an ERD created in this module, and six csvs filled with data not quite combined in a usable form. Using pgAdmin4 and PostgreSQL, I tablulate the data in the requested forms to get the information the company needs to determine amount of people up for retirement, which departments they are in, and how to get a Mentorship Program started to increase the amount of employees ready for senior roles.

Using this as a map (Fig 1), above I was able to pair select tables and columns together for the desired information.

The first grouping sought was the titles of the retiring employees in a table.

Following this grouping, I needed to delete duplicate employee numbers, as some of them have been employed at Pewlet Hackard long enough to have a couple different promotion dates. I was only concerned about pulling the most up-to-date titles.

Then ordered the number of retiring by department number. This is helpful as a group to see the large numbers of people able to retire or looking to in the next couple years.

The next deliverable is to see about what starting a Mentorship program using the code above to see what the number of employees look like.

  • Are there enough qualified, retirement-ready employees in the departments to mentor the next generation of Pewlett Hackard employees?

  • The basis for determining if there are enough "qualified" other employees to mentor the next generation: The short answer is "No". Coming in at a fraction of the employees (1549). I pulled another table of titles with "Leader" or "Senior" in them to emphasize this tabulation of needing to be replaced. Senior Leader titles

The assumptions here a a bit off, not everyone based on age will be in Senior roles, it might be a good litmus test but more information is actually needed. People might also not want to retire until they are 70 vs 65 or even 55 years of age. Obviously, this is something that could be surveyed to the actual employees a bit more accurately.
