- make sure that Chrome is installed (for console debugging of the Android and iOS apps)
- install Java 8 so you can build the Android app
- install Android Studio Manager (or the Android CLI SDK tools) – either way, you'll have to accept the licenses
- install Xcode 10+ so you can build the iOS app
