Display data from serial port on a web page

Primary LanguagePython

webserial

Display data from serial port on a web page

This can be used to display data from serial port (any data such as from IoT devices ESP32, etc.) on a web page.

This has been tested on Ubuntu Linux.

First install dependencies

pip3 install serial

Give permission to dialout group

sudo usermod -a -G dialout $USER

Correct the .txt file path and device path (default is /dev/ttyUSB0) in readserial.py if needed. Launch something on the serial port, for example a programm on ESP32 that prints something to serial port.

Open two terminals and cd to webserial directory. On first terminal launch readserial.py

python3 readserial.py

On another terminal launch

python -m SimpleHTTPServer

After that the web page can be accessed through the IP address and port number (default is 8000). For example on your PC it would be http://127.0.0.1:8000

Note that the webpage only shows the last 1000 lines.
